Terre-Neuve: a castle to see during your hotel stay

Castle of Terre-Neuve : a jewel of the Renaissance

Built between 1584 and 1594 for Nicolas Rapin, poet and comrade-in-arms of Henri IV, the the Castle of Terre-Neuve is considered to be one of the most beautiful châteaux in the Vendée. Situated in the town of Fontenay-le-Comte, this remarkable Renaissance work, classified as a Historic Monument, is famous for its Alchemical fireplace, its sculpted coffered ceilings, its woodwork from the Castle of Chambord, the suns of which are delicately gilded with gold leaf. The Castle of Terre Neuve, a flamboyant testimony to the economic and intellectual influence of the Bas-Poitou region, has received over the centuries a large number of illustrious figures from French history, such as Agrippa d'Aubigné, Octave de Rochebrune, the Duke of Sully and Georges Simenon. We invite you to discover Newfoundland and enjoy its park and gardens.
